Learn in Three Languages as an Adult: English, Spanish, and Mandarin Chinese

Educational Approach

Our standard program teaches English, Spanish, and Mandarin Chinese, with the goal of achieving fluency in all three languages, which allows for communication with 90% of the world! Many people believe learning a second language is harder as an adult, when really it just requires a different approach with more opportunities for practicing and modeling what is being learned.

We begin by teaching linguistics so students understand how syllabic languages are structured, which makes it easier to learn the languages. You'll learn how these languages sound and how to convincely speak in the main dialect. We also integrate an understanding of culture and histories of words.

This program is offered remotely to students 15+ worldwide, and takes 1.5 to 3 years to complete. We typically schedule two hour-long classes per student each week, with 30 minutes spent on Spanish and 30 minutes on Mandarin Chinese in each class, for students with an English base. We teach each student using an individualized approach suited to how you learn and what you already know.

Frequently Asked Questions

• When do you offer classes? - We offer classes Monday through Friday from 7:30am to 8pm Mountain Standard Time, and sometimes Saturday, scheduled in advance individually with each student.
• Are these individual or group classes? - All classes are taught one-on-one to individuals.
• What happens if I miss a class? - You can always make-up classes! That can be during the week and sometimes on a Saturday.
• What are the technical requirements for classes? - You will need a device that can use Zoom along with a working microphone and camera for video.
• Who are the teachers? - Dave and Jessie Finley teach all classes and have had lots of success with their approach. See the About page for more information about their education and experience.
• Can I learn just one language with your program? What if I already am advanced in two of the languages? - Our learning model is based on using three languages, with the language you already know being the base. We offer the option to learn only one language in specific situations, such as when fluent in two of the languages. Some students with fluency in two languages have found the full program helpful.
• What type of English, Spanish, and Chinese are taught? - We focus on American English, Castillian Spanish, and Mandarin Chinese.
• What level of language will I have after completing your program? - Fluency in all three languages, with the ability to speak, listen, read, and write, and enough of a background about how the language works and base vocab where you can teach yourself.
• Does your program use language proficiency levels or any other levels to measure progress? - Yes. We reference the DELE test for Spanish and HSK for Mandarin Chinese.
• What types of activities take place in class? - We adapt classes to a student's style of learning. In earlier classes, we teach language structure. Later classes are more immersive, and may involve open conversion, videos, other other methods, depending on the specific class and student.
• Will I receive any kind of certificate upon completion? - We are happy to write a letter about completing our program for any who requests it.
